Eric and I toured the
west of Canada in august/september
of 2001. We spent about two weeks camping and
hiking in the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks of
Banff,
Jasper,
Yoho, and Kootenay. We did not
visit Mount Revelstoke & Glacier.
Apart from
the Rockies, we also spent time on
Vancouver Island,
and in Calgary,
Vancouver, and the
Kootenays and
Okanagan regions.
Kootenay
We didn't get to see a lot of Kootenay,
partially because large parts of the park were
closed due to forest fires. On our way south from
Yoho, however, we spent an afternoon relaxing
in the Hot Springs in Radium, just inside
Kootenay Nat'l Park. It looks just like a
swimming pool, but the water's warm and you
don't exactly see people doing laps: everyone
just seems to be relaxing around the pool.
Watching the people and reading a book were
fun, but it's too bad we weren't allowed to eat
there.
We stayed at the Misty River Lodge, a youth
hostel which also has private suites, on
the road from Radium to the park. The
facilities were good, and the people running
the guesthouse were super friendly.
